On Sunday May 31st sixteen Potter County firefighters from Tri-Town Fire Co. (Ulysses) Dept 47, Roulette Dept. 46 and Genesee Dept. 37 completed the third of four modules of the Delmar Essentials of Firefighting course. This module, Exterior Firefighting, built upon the knowledge the firefighters obtained in the first two modules of the course, Introduction to Firefighting and Firegound Support. The third module included 42 hours of training in ground ladder placement and operations, pre-fire planning, sprinkler system operations, public fire prevention and forcible entry. The training included a trip to the Tri-County Fireman's Association training facility in Smethport to conduct ladder evolutions on the ladder training tower located there as well as a trip to Electricord in Westfield to get first hand information on the layout and operation of a sprinkler system in a commercial building. As part of the course the student firefighters each were required to conduct a pre-fire planning exercise of a local business. The information provided by the students will be used by the department as part of the pre-fire planning process. Completing the class were: Dept 37: Jeremy Adams Dept 46: Cody Bowser, Travis Green, Mark Rees and Bill Shinn Dept 47: Matt Cornell, Cody Crowner, Wallace Eaton, Steve Empson, Christopher Healy, Kaleb Hunt, Kyle Hunt, Tom Jacoby, Luke Lampman, Pam Lampman, and Erich Petsch The senior members of the class (those over the age of 18) will now move on to the fourth and final module, Interior Firefighting, which will begin at the end of September. Any area firefighter that has already completed modules 1 through 3 that is interested in participating in the fourth module, which is also being held at the Tri-Town Fire Station in Ulysses, should fill out an application which is available from the Tri-County Fireman's Association web site.
